Developing a new way of working

After hand-cutting a couple of pieces using a craft knife, I quickly realised that the method wasn't realistic for achieving the amount of detail I wished to, I was also unable to work for a prolonged amount of time due to the strain on my wrist from the amount of pressure needed to cut the paper.

I needed to find a new way of working which would be kind to my hands and give the refined finish I longed to achieve. The answer was an easy one, the laser cutters provide a precise cut with just the amount of detail I needed. However, I had very little experience with Illustrator which is an essential program when working the laser cutter. I would need to learn how to use illustrator before I could produce the vector drawings needed to feed into the laser.

Christian offered to teach me the basics when using illustrator and after a shaky start, I began to get to grips with the program and was able to start drawing the intricate window's I required.

The window designs were inspired by Cathedral windows, looking at the shapes of the glass rather than the images painted upon them. Circles seemed to play an integral part within the window,

After drawing a couple of pieces directly from the windows I wanted to create a few of my own. To do this I took elements from each of the windows I had already drawn and put them together to make different compositions derived from existing windows.
